What the Role Involves

Daily Workshop Loading and Job Board Management:

  • Loading the day's confirmed service and repair bookings into the workshop's job board at the start of the shift - allocating each job to a specific technician based on the job's technical requirement, the technician's certification level, the job's booked time and the technician's available capacity for the day, and structuring each technician's individual workload as a planned sequence of jobs that allows sensible transition between vehicles without gaps or impossible overlaps
  • Managing the job board dynamically throughout the day as the planned schedule deviates from the actuality of workshop operations - reassigning jobs when a technician completes work faster than planned, filling the resulting available time with the appropriate next job from the waiting queue, adjusting the sequence when a delay in one job's completion creates a knock-on effect on the technician's next allocation and maintaining an accurate picture of each technician's current bay status at every point in the working day

Parts and Workshop Flow Coordination:

  • Liaising with the Parts Advisor team to confirm parts availability for jobs loaded on the day's job board, identifying any job whose parts are not confirmed in stock before the technician is expected to start the job and managing the job board allocation to avoid a technician arriving at a vehicle to begin work on a repair whose parts are not yet available
  • Managing the sequencing of vehicles through the workshop's physical space - ensuring that vehicle movements in and out of bays are coordinated efficiently, that vehicles waiting for parts or for customer authority are moved from active bays to waiting areas, and that the physical flow of vehicles through the workshop does not create a situation where a technician is blocked from accessing their next allocated vehicle by the position of an unrelated vehicle
