Warranty Manager Jobs

Warranty Manager Jobs UK

The Warranty Manager owns the dealership's or dealer group's warranty income function at a level beyond processing - setting the claim standards, developing the team's technical understanding of manufacturer warranty policy, managing the manufacturer relationship through the claim submission and audit cycle, and being commercially accountable for the warranty recovery performance that contributes directly to the aftersales department's profitability.

The difference between a dealership that recovers the full value of its legitimate warranty work and one that consistently leaves recoverable income on the table is, in most cases, a combination of claim-building quality and the authority to insist that quality is maintained throughout the organisation. A workshop team that hands over incomplete job cards, a service advisor function that misses pre-authorisation triggers on qualifying repairs and a warranty processing team that accepts manufacturer rejections without dispute are individually manageable problems. The Warranty Manager who addresses all three - through team training, process improvement, pre-authorisation discipline and a commercially assertive approach to disputing unjustified rejections - is the one who moves the recovery dial in a direction the Service Manager and Head of Aftersales notice in the monthly performance review.

The manufacturer audit dimension of the role adds a compliance responsibility that imposes its own rigour. Manufacturer warranty audits are not merely administrative reviews - they seek to identify claim patterns that do not align with the fault and repair data across the brand's dealer network, they test the adequacy of the diagnostic evidence supporting each claim and they assess whether the dealership's warranty process is applying the approval properly or using it as a recovery mechanism for non-warranty work. The Warranty Manager who maintains a clean, well-documented and consistently applied process has little to fear from an audit. The one who has allowed short-cuts, inadequate documentation or improper claim coding to accumulate faces a potentially significant financial consequence that a year of good claim management could not recover. Venatu recruits Warranty Managers for permanent and contract roles across franchised car and commercial vehicle dealerships and multi-site dealer groups throughout the UK. This role sits within our car dealership recruitment division.

  • Franchised commercial vehicle dealerships
  • Multi-site dealer groups with a dedicated warranty management function

  • Senior Warranty Manager

Who Can Apply

Warranty Manager roles attract senior aftersales candidates with a deep understanding of manufacturer warranty processes and a track record of managing warranty income performance. Strong placements typically come from:

  • Experienced Warranty Managers at franchised dealerships who want to move to a new employer, a larger operation or an improved package
  • Senior Warranty Administrators who have been the warranty function's subject matter expert at site level and are ready to take on formal management accountability for the team, the manufacturer relationship and the recovery performance outcomes
  • Service Managers who want to focus specifically on the warranty and aftersales income dimension rather than continuing to manage the full service department, moving into a warranty management role at a larger group operation where the warranty scope alone justifies a senior management appointment
  • Service Team Leaders who have developed thorough manufacturer technical knowledge and a close working relationship with the warranty function and want to develop the management dimension of their career through a Warranty Manager appointment where their technical credibility and manufacturer knowledge make them immediately effective
  • Technical Vehicle Technicians with manufacturer certification who want to move from the workshop into a management role that leverages their deep technical knowledge of common fault types, approved repair procedures and technical service bulletin awareness to improve the quality and defensibility of the claims the warranty team submits
  • Group aftersales professionals who have been working across multiple sites at dealer group level and want to bring consistent warranty process standards, team development and manufacturer relationship management across a portfolio of franchised operations
  • Head of Aftersales professionals at smaller operations who want to take a dedicated Warranty Manager role at a larger franchise where the warranty income volume and team scope are greater

Manufacturer-specific warranty training is the primary technical foundation and is typically funded by the employer. A working technical knowledge of the relevant manufacturer's vehicle range, common failure modes, approved diagnostic procedures and labour time standards is expected at experienced management level. Familiarity with the DMS platforms used by the franchised dealer network is standard. Venatu confirms the manufacturer brand, team size and group scope with each employer before presenting candidates.

What the Role Involves

Warranty Income Strategy and Performance Management:

  • Setting and monitoring the dealership's or group's warranty recovery performance against the manufacturer's benchmark recovery rate for the brand and location, identifying the claim categories, vehicle lines and repair types where the operation's recovery performance lags the benchmark and designing targeted process improvements to close the gap
  • Reviewing the monthly warranty account statement in detail - analysing submitted, processed, credited and rejected claim values, identifying the rejection rate by claim category, and communicating the performance position and recovery outlook to the Service Manager, Head of Aftersales or Group Aftersales Director accurately and in the financial format the management reporting requires
  • Developing the warranty claim process from the job card creation point through to submission, identifying the stages where documentation quality breaks down most frequently and implementing practical process changes - updated job card requirements, technician training on documentation, service advisor pre-authorisation briefings - that address the root cause of recurring documentation failures

Team Management and Development:

  • Managing the Warranty Administrator team's daily performance, reviewing claim submissions for quality before posting, coaching individual administrators on documentation standards, claim coding accuracy and the pre-authorisation process and developing each team member's manufacturer warranty knowledge at the pace the business's claim volume and quality requirements demand
  • Delivering regular warranty process training to the workshop team, Service Advisors and reception staff on the identification of warranty-qualifying repairs, the documentation the warranty claim requires from the first point of the job card, and the pre-authorisation triggers that must be acted upon before the repair is carried out rather than after it is complete
  • Managing the warranty function's workload scheduling, ensuring claim submission deadlines are met consistently, that rejection management work does not accumulate on the back of the queue while new claims are being built and that the team's capacity is matched to the volume the workshop generates

Manufacturer Relationship and Audit Management:

  • Managing the dealership's manufacturer warranty contact relationship - attending manufacturer warranty training events, staying current with changes to warranty policy, approved repair procedures and claim submission requirements and cascading those changes to the team and workshop promptly so that compliance is maintained from the publication date of any change rather than from the date of the next audit
  • Preparing the dealership's warranty file documentation for manufacturer warranty audits, conducting internal pre-audit reviews that identify and address any documentation gap, coding anomaly or process non-compliance before the official auditor arrives, and supporting the auditor throughout the review process with accurate, accessible and professionally presented records
  • Disputing audit findings that are not supported by the evidence on file, communicating the dealership's position through the manufacturer's dispute channel with the technical and administrative evidence required to support a challenge, and managing the financial outcome of any audit debit note through the correct accounting and manufacturer liaison process. Technical Validation and Pre-Authorisation:

  • Validating the technical basis of warranty claims where the repair type, parts usage or labour time is outside the standard approval profile for the repair - confirming that the diagnostic evidence supports the claim, that the approved repair procedure has been followed and that the claim's financial value is consistent with the work described in the job card
  • Managing the pre-authorisation process for high-value, complex or non-standard warranty repairs - initiating pre-authorisation requests at the point the repair is identified, managing the manufacturer's technical line response, communicating the authorisation decision to the workshop before the job proceeds and retaining the authorisation record in the claim file for audit purposes
  • Reviewing technical service bulletins and recall campaign information as they are published, identifying vehicles within the dealership's service population that are subject to new bulletins, ensuring the recall and campaign administration process captures those vehicles and communicating any warranty policy change embedded in a bulletin to the workshop and warranty team promptly

FAQ

What does a Warranty Manager do? A Warranty Manager leads the warranty income function at a franchised dealership or dealer group - managing the claim submission process, developing the team's manufacturer warranty knowledge, setting claim quality standards, managing the pre-authorisation process, disputing unjustified rejections and preparing the business for manufacturer warranty audits. The role is accountable for the organisation's warranty recovery performance as a measurable financial outcome and for maintaining the compliance standard that protects the business's manufacturer relationship and audit standing.

What technical knowledge does a Warranty Manager need? A Warranty Manager does not need to be a qualified technician, but a working technical knowledge of the manufacturer's common fault types, approved diagnostic procedures, labour time standards and the logic behind the warranty approval framework is essential for validating claim quality, coaching the workshop team and defending audit challenges with technical authority. Warranty Managers who have a technical background - or who have developed technical knowledge through extended time in the warranty function - are consistently more effective at identifying incorrect claim coding, inadequate diagnostic documentation and pre-authorisation trigger situations than those who approach the role as a purely administrative function.

What does a Warranty Manager earn in the UK? Warranty Managers at large volume franchised operations typically earn between £38,000 and £54,000. Group Warranty Managers overseeing multiple sites earn between £46,000 and £64,000. Senior Warranty Managers earn between £44,000 and £60,000. Performance bonuses linked to recovery rate and audit outcomes are common at dealer group level. Venatu benchmarks total package with each employer before beginning a search.

What is the progression from Warranty Manager? Common progression routes include Group Warranty Manager overseeing multiple franchises, Head of Aftersales where the warranty function sits within a broader aftersales leadership scope, and Group Aftersales Director for those who develop the commercial breadth across parts, service and warranty at group level. Some Warranty Managers develop a manufacturer-side career, moving into trainer, aftersales development manager or warranty operations roles within the manufacturer's dealer support function where their deep knowledge of the dealer-side warranty process is highly valued.
