What the Role Involves

External Preparation:

• Carrying out pre-wash decontamination processes on vehicles requiring a full valet - traffic film remover application, fallout and iron contamination treatment, tar spot removal - before the main wash stage to protect the paintwork from abrasion during the wash process and ensure the finished result is free from embedded contamination
• Washing vehicle exteriors using the two-bucket or foam cannon method and appropriate pH-neutral vehicle shampoo, working systematically from the roof downward, using dedicated wash mitts and drying towels to minimise the risk of introducing swirl marks during the wash and dry process
• Machine polishing painted surfaces where the preparation standard requires paint correction or gloss enhancement - operating dual action or rotary polishing machines with appropriate compound and pad combinations to remove light scratches, oxidation and wash-induced marring, following with a finishing polish and a paint protection, wax or sealant application
• Cleaning and dressing all exterior rubber, plastic and trim surfaces, cleaning glass inside and out to a smear-free standard and dressing tyres to the specification the employer requires - whether a natural finish for a used car presentation or a dressed look for a new vehicle delivery

Interior Preparation:

• Carrying out full interior vacuuming and steam or hot water extraction cleaning on carpets, seats and loadspace areas as required by the vehicle's condition, applying appropriate upholstery and carpet cleaning agents to soiled areas and extracting to a dry and odour-free finish
• Cleaning all interior hard surfaces - dashboard, door cards, centre console, steering wheel, headlining and door shuts - with appropriate interior detailing products, applying interior dressing to plastic surfaces at the finish level the employer specifies without leaving a sticky or overpowering residue
• Cleaning glass, mirrors and all reflective surfaces to a smear-free standard using an appropriate glass cleaner, ensuring visibility from every seat position is unobstructed and that the windscreen interior is free from the film build-up that creates glare at low sun angles

New Vehicle Delivery Preparation:

• Removing protective transit film and packaging from new vehicles, conducting a systematic paint inspection for any transport damage, peel or contamination, and escalating any finding that requires correction to the Prep Centre Manager or Service Manager before the vehicle moves to handover
• Preparing new vehicles to the manufacturer's delivery presentation standard, applying any manufacturer-specified protection treatments, fitting floor mats and number plates and presenting the vehicle for inspection by the Handover Specialist or Sales Executive ahead of the customer appointment

Vehicle Movement and Compound Management:

• Moving vehicles around the preparation compound, delivery area and handover bays safely under the employer's site vehicle movement procedure, ensuring vehicles are correctly positioned and secured in the correct location for their status in the preparation or delivery workflow
• Maintaining the preparation area, wash bay and detailing workspace in a clean, organised and product-stocked condition throughout every shift, reporting any equipment defect or product supply shortage to the team leader promptly
