What the Role Involves

Preparation Before Application:

• Receiving prepared panels and vehicles from the Bodyshop Prepper and carrying out a final preparation assessment, identifying any surface defects, contamination or flatting imperfections that must be corrected before paint application begins to avoid inclusions, solvent pop or adhesion failure in the finished work
• Masking vehicles to protect unrepaired surfaces from overspray, using the correct masking technique for the panel being refinished - including back-masking for blended edges - and ensuring all glass, trim, rubber seals and mechanical components are fully protected
• Applying primer sealer or primer filler to the prepared panel as required by the repair specification, following the paint system manufacturer's application and flash-off time recommendations and sanding the primed surface to the correct grade and surface quality before base coat application

Colour Matching:

• Identifying the correct paint formula for the vehicle's manufacturer colour code using the paint system's formula database, applying any formula adjustments recorded for the specific paint system and batch in use, and mixing the base coat accurately by weight to the system manufacturer's specification
