What the Role Involves

Routine Maintenance and Safety Inspection:

• Carrying out scheduled preventive maintenance services on semi-trailers in line with the operator's maintenance programme, covering brake system checks and adjustment, landing gear lubrication and operation, tyre checks, lighting, coupling components, load securing hardware and all associated service items
• Conducting DVSA safety inspections on trailers where AVE-qualified, completing inspection documentation accurately in line with the Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness requirements and certifying trailers as fit or recommending withdrawal from service based on findings
• Preparing trailers for DVSA annual test across Class 5 or Class 7 designation as applicable, managing post-test rectification work to return trailers to service promptly

Braking, Suspension and Mechanical Systems:

• Inspecting, adjusting and replacing air braking components including brake chambers, slack adjusters, brake shoes and drums, discs and pads, air reservoirs, desiccant air dryers and associated pipework and valves
• Servicing and repairing trailer suspension systems including leaf spring, air suspension bags, shock absorbers, axle components and associated linkages
• Replacing and repairing fifth wheel coupling plates, kingpin assemblies and landing gear mechanisms, checking coupling engagement security and landing gear operation under load
• Inspecting and maintaining trailer ABS and EBS units, trailer brake connections, glad-hand couplings and electrical socket connections

Specialist Systems:

• Servicing and repairing refrigeration units on temperature-controlled trailers including checking refrigerant levels where within the technician's F-Gas scope, replacing air filters, inspecting evaporator and condenser units, managing defrost cycle operation and diagnosing and rectifying temperature control faults
