Assistant Centre Manager Jobs

All you need to know to get hired

The Assistant Centre Manager is the operational deputy of the automotive service centre, fast-fit outlet or national service network branch. Responsible for supporting the Centre Manager across daily operations, the role combines team supervision, customer service management, sales contribution, health and safety compliance and deputising for site leadership in the Centre Manager's absence.

It is a role that bridges the gap between technical or customer service delivery and branch management, and one of the most direct routes into a Centre Manager position within the national automotive service sector. Venatu recruits Assistant Centre Managers for permanent and temporary roles across fast-fit chains, tyre and exhaust networks, national service brands, vehicle preparation centres and fleet maintenance operations throughout the UK. This role sits within our car dealership and operational support recruitment activity.

  • Vehicle leasing and daily rental depot operations

  • Acting Centre Manager
  • Assistant Manager (Fast-Fit)
  • Service Centre Team Leader (stepping into management)

Who Can Apply

Strong candidates typically come from two directions - those progressing up from the workshop or service environment and those transitioning from management roles in adjacent sectors:

  • Senior Technicians or Lead Technicians in fast-fit or national service environments who have taken on shift supervision and customer-facing responsibility and are ready for their first management step
  • Service Advisors or Customer Service staff with strong sales performance records and an interest in team leadership and site operations
  • Existing Assistant Centre Managers at other networks looking for a new employer, larger site or more structured development pathway
  • Assistant Managers from automotive retail, parts distribution or fleet operations who want to move into a service centre environment
  • Managers from retail or hospitality with strong people management, sales and operational compliance experience who are making a transition into automotive service management
  • Assistant Service Managers from franchised dealership backgrounds who want to move into a faster-paced national network environment

Venatu assesses leadership potential, customer service track record and commercial awareness alongside any technical background when shortlisting for Assistant Centre Manager roles.

FAQ

What does an Assistant Centre Manager do in automotive? An Assistant Centre Manager supports the Centre Manager in running an automotive service centre or fast-fit branch. Responsibilities include supervising the team, managing the customer experience, supporting sales performance, handling complaints, maintaining health and safety compliance, managing stock and deputising as site lead in the Centre Manager's absence. The scope varies by employer type and centre size.

What experience is needed to become an Assistant Centre Manager? Most employers look for prior supervisory or team leader experience within a customer-facing operational environment. A technical background in automotive servicing or fast-fit is an advantage but not always required. Strong customer service management, commercial awareness and the ability to motivate a team are the core requirements. Venatu advises candidates on how their background translates to the specific employer's requirements before application.

What does an Assistant Centre Manager earn in the UK? Experienced Assistant Centre Managers typically earn between £32,000 and £40,000. Entry-level positions start between £26,000 and £32,000. Senior or deputy Centre Manager roles earn between £38,000 and £48,000. Most roles include a performance-linked bonus. Venatu benchmarks package expectations with each client before beginning a search.

What is the progression from Assistant Centre Manager? The primary progression route is into a Centre Manager role, either at the same site or at a larger centre within the same network. High-performing Centre Managers may progress into Area Manager or Regional Manager roles responsible for multiple sites. Venatu identifies employers with structured management development programmes for candidates focused on progression. Visit the HR Hub for further guidance on automotive management career development.

Is an Assistant Centre Manager role different from an Assistant Service Manager? Yes. An Assistant Service Manager typically works within the aftersales service department of a franchised car dealership, supporting the Service Manager with technician management, warranty processing and manufacturer compliance. An Assistant Centre Manager typically works within a fast-fit, national service chain or fleet maintenance centre environment, with broader site operational responsibility. The skills overlap significantly but the working environment and employer type differ. Venatu advises candidates on which route better suits their background and ambitions.

Do I need a technical automotive background to become an Assistant Centre Manager? Not always. While many Assistant Centre Managers have a technical background from working as a technician or in a service environment, strong candidates also come from customer service management, retail management and operational compliance roles. Venatu identifies which employers require technical knowledge and which prioritise management and customer service capability, and advises candidates accordingly.
