A national logistics organisation urgently required three HGV Technicians across multiple sites in the North of England on a contract basis. The business had fallen approximately 200 hours behind on maintenance work and needed immediate support to recover the backlog. Additionally, the roles were for night shifts, which are typically challenging to fill.
The Challenge
The key difficulty was sourcing skilled HGV Technicians willing to work night shifts at short notice, while ensuring they met the required standards and could integrate quickly into the existing team.
The Approach
Using an extensive internal CRM database, a suitable and experienced HGV Technician was quickly identified. This individual had an established relationship with the recruitment team and was known to be a strong fit for the organisation’s requirements.
Following successful onboarding, the technician was introduced to the company’s referral programme and subsequently recommended two former colleagues with similar experience and skill sets.
The Solution
Both referred candidates successfully passed the client’s vetting process. As a result, all three technicians were placed into the business and assigned to the same shift.
This approach not only ensured full coverage for the previously hard-to-fill night roles but also enabled the team to work cohesively from the outset. The client was able to reduce their backlog efficiently, and both the candidates and the organisation reported high levels of satisfaction with the outcome.
